The Fine Arts Work Center’s Summer Awards Celebration is its largest and most widely attended fundraiser, an annual commemoration of individuals whose essential gifts for writing, art, and action have moved us toward a more progressive and humane society. Recent honorees include painter Paul Resika, television writer Ryan Murphy, playwright Paula Vogel, actor Robert De Niro, writer Ann Patchett, and former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick, among others.

This year’s Summer Awards will be held on Saturday, July 21, at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum. On this, our 50th anniversary, we are pleased and honored to recognize distinguished creative achievement in 5 categories:

DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS   Internationally renowned artist and activist Ai Weiwei
FOUNDER   Fine Arts Work Center Co-Founders, Salvatore and Josephine Del Deo (in memoriam)
PATRON   Fine Arts Work Center Trustee and esteemed patron of the arts Alison Ferring
WRITER   Fine Arts Work Center Fellow and award-winning writer Denis Johnson (in memoriam)
ARTIST   Fine Arts Work Center Fellow and distinguished artist and educator Sam Messer

The July 21 celebration at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum includes a reception, awards presentation and a gourmet dinner by MAX Ultimate Catering. The event will also feature an exhibition, saluting Salvatore and Josephine Del Deo, curated by Sam Tager. Tickets begin at $300 up to $10,000. Sponsor packages are also available. Premium donors are invited to attend a "Spotlight on Ai Weiwei” on Friday, July 20 at the Fine Arts Work Center. This exclusive event will include a private exhibition preview of Ai Weiwei: Rebar and Case, as well as conversation with the artist. Premium donors are also invited to a Benefactor Appreciation Dinner in late August.
