Mission and Legacy
For over 50 years, the Fine Arts Work Center has provided time and space to emerging artists and writers at crucial early stages of creative development within a community of peers. The founders hoped that the Work Center would perpetuate Provincetown’s seminal importance for the arts in America, overcoming modest means and geographic isolation to create an internationally acclaimed institution. The restoration and amplification of the year-round vitality of Provincetown as a historic artists’ community lies at the heart of the Work Center’s mission. All of our programs are dedicated to enhancing this legacy.

Our Programs
We select 20 Fellows to live and work in Provincetown from October 1 – April 30. The Fellowship is designed for emerging artists and writers to focus solely on creative practice. Fellows share their work as part of our winter public program, which also includes lectures and readings from visiting artists and writers.
During late spring, early fall, and summer, past Fellows and friends of the Work Center return to Provincetown for short-term stays during our Returning Residency program, which offers artists and writers dedicated time to advance creative projects and ideas.
Every summer, we welcome students and faculty for a full season of open enrollment, multidisciplinary course offerings in literature, visual art, playwriting, and more. This program includes over 50 public events that are free and open to our community.
24PearlStreet Online Writing Workshops
All year, we offer online learning opportunities of varying lengths and skill levels through our online writing program 24PearlStreet, where writers can work with esteemed poets, prose writers, and graphic novelists in small group, virtual settings.
