Fellowship: The Fine Arts Work Center offers 7-month Fellowships to 10 emerging visual artists each year from October 1 through April 30. Visual Arts Fellows are provided with a private furnished apartment and a separate work studio approximately 400 sq ft. Fellows are awarded $1000 monthly stipend plus $1000 exit stipend to support relocation at the end of the Fellowship.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years or older and must not participate in a degree program during the Fellowship. The Fellowship is open to all emerging visual artists creating 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional and time-based work. Applicants are selected by the quality of their work and not by exhibitions, resumes or recommendations. The jury disqualifies applicants who deem to have already emerged (e.g., those who have had high profile solo exhibitions or have been in significant group exhibitions such as biennials). Tenure track professors who are on sabbatical are not eligible.

Collaborative teams may apply under one application and if selected, only one Fellowship will be awarded. Applicants who apply as an individual artist as well as part of a collaborative team may do so if these two bodies of work are completely different and distinctive.

Artists must be in residence during their Fellowship. Absences may not exceed more than 14 consecutive days or total of more than 30 days during the 7-month Fellowship. Please consider any personal or professional commitments you have made or anticipate before applying. The Fine Arts Work Center welcomes family members and partners of Fellows during the Fellowship.

International applicants are welcome to apply. The Fine Arts Work Center actively seeks applicants from all backgrounds, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, marital status, ancestry, disability, HIV status or veteran status.
