BEFORE YOU APPLY—PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Fellows are required to reside full-time in Provincetown during the seven months of the Fellowship. Fellows are provided with an apartment and a monthly stipend of $750.
Writers who have published a full-length book of creative work* (or have a contract to publish a full-length creative work) in any genre are not eligible. If an applicant receives a contract during the application period, she must notify Sophia Starmack at email@example.com.
*Note: FAWC has a policy of considering most poetry chapbooks not to be “full length” works; poets who have only published chapbooks in small-circulation runs on small presses are eligible to apply for the Fellowship. However, if you have published a chapbook and plan to apply, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org so that our Writing Committee can verify that your publication is not a “full length” work. Please include title, author’s name, date of publication, page length, name of the press, and number of copies that were printed.
You will need:
- A writing sample
FICTION: No more than 35 pages, double-spaced
You may submit short stories or an excerpt from a novel. The first page of your sample must consist of a cover sheet listing the title(s) of enclosed work. If sending an excerpt from a novel, please include a brief synopsis (1–2 pages) and, preferably, the opening section.
POETRY: No more than 15 pages
You may submit 15 pages of poetry. The first page of your sample must consist of a cover sheet listing the title(s) of enclosed work. Do not count the cover sheet in your page total.
For all writing samples: Combine multiple files into a single PDF document. Do not count the cover sheet or synopsis in your page total. Your name must not appear anywhere in the writing sample, OR ON THE COVER PAGE. Likewise, do not list publications or award citations anywhere in the sample. After preliminary reading, the jury may request additional writing samples.
- A current resume or CV
Your resume or CV should list education, job experience, publications, and awards if applicable.
- An optional 1-2 page sketch of your life as a writer
A statement is not required but may help the selection committee consider your ability to profit from the Fellowship. It may also be used to provide additional information about pertinent entries on your resume or CV. Please note that the writing sample is by far the most important element of your application and the jury will consider your manuscript first and foremost in the selection process.
- A $50 application fee, payable by credit card
