When even a major gallery closes, there is no obituary; there will be a second act however, when artSTRAND’s twelve founders plus an additional long time member join forces for “The Last artSTRANDING: From the Beginning”, opening June 10 at the Fine Arts Work Center. The idea was hatched jointly by Bob Bailey and painter Bert Yarborough, each connected to FAWC, Yarborough as a former Visual Arts Program Coordinator and current Chair of the Visual Committee, and Bailey as Building and Grounds Manager. Both came to town as FAWC fellows: Yarborough in 1976 and Bailey in 1989 . It made sense to meld their strengths for what Bailey says is not intended as a “closure,” but a celebration of long standing friendships and creative ties. Showing are: Bailey Bob Bailey, Breon Dunigan, Anna Poor, Francis Olschafskie, Jim Peters, Jay Critchley, Paul Bowen, Irene Lipton, Tabitha Vevers, Dan Ranalli, Sarah Lutz, Bert Yarborough, Maryalice Johnston
