Charles C. Bergman (1933-2018)
It is with great sadness that we share with you that FAWC trustee, Charles C. Bergman, died on Sunday, February 25, in New York City after a long illness. He is survived by his husband, Stuart Levy. Charlie served on the Work Center’s Board of Directors and knew Provincetown and its artists very well, having supported a great many of them over the years in his role at the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, where he was Chairman and Chief Executive until his death. In this role Charlie presided over grant-making to literally thousands of visual artists, giving away more than $70M over the 32 years since the Foundation was established in 1985 through the generosity of Jackson Pollock’s widow, artist Lee Krasner. With Charlie’s help, the Foundation recently sponsored two mid-career artists at the Work Center and in 2017 made a generous $50K gift to FAWC. We hope that a portion of this gift will support the 50th Anniversary Campaign. He also sponsored two generous grants during Margaret Murphy’s Directorship.
