Ada Limón Staying True: Authenticity and Voice: Summer Poetry July 31 to August 25, 2017 Tuition: $500 Class Size: 15 Format: 4 Week Asynchronous Workshop

Ada Limón is determined to help you focus in on your own personal style and write poems in your own unique voice in a world filled with constantly challenging external influences. This class you will offer new techniques to help you develop a more powerful personal identity in your poetry that will deepen the connection between you and your readers.

With so many poetic and artistic influences circulating wildly in the modern world, it can be difficult to remain true to your own instinctual style and idiosyncratic voice. Because contemporary writers are continually inundated with exciting new styles and innovative voices, the need to find the quiet strength in your own work has never been more urgent. In this 4-week online poetry course, we will focus on what makes your poetry—and your specific voice—unique and powerful. We will read, listen, and watch poets—both classic and contemporary—whose work exemplifies artistic individuality, and discuss how a strong poetic personality can affect your connection with the audience. With new writing prompts each week, we’ll workshop new poems and offer supportive feedback designed to help you bring out what’s most essential in your own work. This class has been created to help you write the poems you were meant to write.
